Lyon Is Getting Started on Potty Training
Check out this blog from The Potty Project.
Meet Lyon and Her Mom
I am a single mom and am generally relaxed in my approach to life and potty training. Lyon has avoided the potty every time I've made an attempt, but now I am thinking my laid-back style of parenting might need to change, if I want to get Lyon out of diapers anytime soon. I plan to hike the Appalachian Trail with Lyon this fall, and I'd like to do it without having to carry a diaper bag.
Getting Started
I can’t believe this is happening. To be quite honest, I forgot that the next stage in a toddler's life is potty training. Maybe Lyon will surprise me and be potty trained in a heartbeat!

How hard can it be? Either way I accept this awesome moment in Lyon’s life as a challenge and hopefully she will be potty trained soon. How could she not? To be honest with you, I have no idea what to do, or when to do it or how to do it. Wish me luck!!!
Getting Supplies
Trip to the store where we purchased two potties, one for our house one for grandma, a magic wand, Pull-Ups training pants, green and purple hand soap, noise makers and some rewards for when Lyon goes to potty. The trip to the store was awesome. The sales person was extremely helpful when we asked her about the various and assorted potties. She told us about her experience when she was training her daughter who is now three.

Lyon goes to day care today with her Pull-Ups training pants. Hopefully, the staff will have time to include her in the potty activities rather than just changing her.

Today I was off from work. Lyon loves to pull down her training pants and take them off completely. Then she points to her bootie and says "ca-ca". I tried to put her on the potty but she didn't want to sit on it. Instead, she cleaned the potty out with the magic wand.

Back to work! She had all Pull-Ups training pants in her bag when I dropped her off at day care. My fingers are crossed but it has been less than a week.

This morning Lyon sat on the potty after breakfast. She didn't go though. Every morning I am going to try and sit on the toilet while she sits on her potty. ...A joint venture

Keeping It Up with Potty Training
When I got home from work, Lyon was too tired to go potty. She just brought me a Pull-Ups pant and a book basically saying, "Let's just go to bed and do this potty thing another time" The Pull-Ups training pants are working. She likes to take them on and off herself.

Lyon put Baby on the potty this morning. She is saying the word "potty" more and more. She loves to escort me into the bathroom and watch me go. She also loves to hand me the toilet paper and wash her hands. I guess this is progress, right?

Oh My God!!!! Lyon went to potty!!! She woke up super early and I was still asleep. I took her Pull-Ups training pant off to air out her bootie and fell asleep for ten more minutes. Within that time Lyon went potty. She tapped me on the shoulder and said "Mommy, "CA-CA" in potty. Of course I didn't believe her. I got up and looked in the potty and saw "Ca -Ca" in the form of Diarrhea (beans and rice from the night before). She kept trying to flush it and was disappointed that the potty didn't flush. The funny thing is that the potty wasn't turned on so she didn't hear the cheer and celebration, so we did our own. I got the camera and videotaped the results. I am so proud of my little lady.

Lyon didn't go potty this morning. I don't even think she remembers that she went! She continues to bring me the Pull Ups training pants and tells me when she is wet. I played the video to jog her memory and all she said was "You mommy". That's because I say to her "You Lyon!"

Lyon put her rubber duckies in the potty today and stirred them with the magic wand. She then sat on the potty, got up, got the toilet paper, flushed, and washed her hands. The only thing missing was the "pee-pee and ca-ca" in the toilet. Well, at least she tried! I love the fact that she knows the order of things.

Today we woke up in time for a quick "try" on the potty. I think she thinks that going through the motions is her actually going potty. As if I sit on the potty just to go through the motions too. Little does she know, I would rather wear a Pull-Ups pant so that I don't have to spend time on the toilet! Let's trade places Lyon! I was so tired when I picked her up tonight from my moms that I didn't even try to sit her on the potty again. I just put a Night*Time Pull-Ups training pant on her and called it an evening.

Lyon Is Close to The Big Finish

Almost Finished with Potty Training
Lyon has not gone potty! I am starting to feel like maybe the "not til 2" thing is true. She's got EVERYTHING else down though! I think I will let her run around with her lil bootie out and see what happens. Are we regressing?

Lyon was a little cranky last night and didn't sleep well. Her big ol molars are coming in and she has had a few sleepless nights. These molars are as big as mine! Looks like she is hoarding a pack of Chicklets in her mouth. I'm laying off the potty so that I don't seem like the evil demon to her. I have to be her safe place. I don't want her to think life is all about pain. Pee Pee, Teeth. . . forget this! I'm outta here! Wait til she has to pay bills and date. Then she will wish for potty days and teething.

What a hilarious DAY!!! We basically set up about 11 buckets including 2 potties and fed Lyon juice and ice chips on the potty for 3 hours. Do you believe that she tinkled right next to the potty after holding it in for an un-godly amount of time. She should have a urinary tract infection by now. I think she was doing it on purpose though. Every time she would look down my mom and I would scream and literally throw her onto a bucket or potty. I thought this would be it! We set it all up! And gave her liquids!! I love Lyon. What a good sport she is. She is probably doing that to torture us. She succeeded.

Lyon went potty all by herself today!!! APRIL FOOLS!!! Nope, same ol, same ol. She has got the regime down pact. We have all bases covered. It's bottom of the 9th, 3 men on and 2 strikes, 3 balls. We just need the pee pee or ka ka to go in the potty. We can do this team. Have I lost my mind?

What a day. What a day. Apparently, there IS no line. Well, there is a potty line for the older children but not for Lyon. SO, apparently, Lyon hasn't even been trying to go potty by herself and she hasn't been encouraged by the daycare AT ALL. But I'm not particularly upset. It's the language barrier. Some people/ ages/ cultures are more relaxed about certain things and more strict about others! I do understand that she isn't 2 yet and the physical has to match the mental. She has yet to understand the "feeling" of having to go to the bathroom. She will however be 2 in 12 days.

When I went to pick Lyon up from daycare, Mariela, the daycare coordinator (out of the blue), told me that I should start potty training Lyon because she takes her Pull-Ups and pants off all the time. I couldn't believe it! Hello?! I have been trying to tell her that for the past 2 months! Good thing I have an exquisite sense of humor! Life is super funny. We are still ahead of the game troops!

Today I thought we would entertain quite the opposite approach from last Sunday. We drew a picture of the hike that Lyon and I are going to hopefully take once she is fully potty trained. We didn't put too much pressure on the whole potty situation. And what was the result? She didn't even really want to sit on that potty! She wanted to play with the ball and eat chips. But you know what? I am the proudest mom ever! Her second birthday is in a week and a half and she asks to sit on the potty, she knows how to pull her pants and Pull-Ups training pants off, washes her hands and even went ka ka in the potty one time. Now THAT is like skipping a grade. Right? And that is AY OKAY with me! Success is what you define success as. . . and Lyon is truly a picture of success.
