The bathroom might seem like a mysterious place to your child. Help them solve this with the Pull-Ups® Build-A-Bathroom Game! Your child can strengthen their understanding and confidence about what’s in the bathroom and what it’s for. This bathroom game is one of many tools you can use to help your child start potty training the fun way.

Build-A-Bathroom: Pull-Ups® Game
It’s hard to remember, but there was a time in your life when you didn’t know how to use the bathroom, and your toddler is living through that now! They may even be intimidated by it, especially by the loud noise of the flush and the swirling water. Your child needs help learning what is supposed to happen when they go potty, so making learning fun by using a bathroom game is a bonus!

Even if your child is just beginning to show signs that they're ready to start potty training, you can start helping them get familiar with the idea by talking about it or playing this bathroom game. Then, when they are finally ready to start, they will already know bathroom vocabulary.

Speaking of vocabulary, you also can start thinking about the language and tone you’ll want to use when you talk about the process. Talking about using the bathroom can be uncomfortable for some parents, so you may want to start thinking of how you’ll integrate this into your vocabulary as well. Here are some examples:

  • “Let’s go to the park. But first, everyone has to go to the potty.”
  • “Want to show your stuffed animal how you’re using the Big Kid potty?”
Similarly, consider how you will celebrate your toddler’s attempts. Each child responds to the process differently, so think about which words and how to praise your child at every step, from telling you they have to go all the way to washing their hands at the end.

In the meantime, this bathroom game will help you introduce all the parts of the bathroom as well as other potty training supplies they will use and see. You may want to take a shopping trip to stock up on these items before your child starts the game. That way, you can show them everything that they’re learning in real life.

You and your child can play this bathroom game on a phone, tablet or in real life. Whether your child has earned some screen time or wants to get up and get moving, our Build-A-Bathroom Game is ready to teach them the bathroom basics!

Instructions

First, take your toddler into the bathroom with you and allow them to explore the environment while you are using the bathroom. Explain to them what each item in the bathroom is and how it works before you use it. For example:

  • “This is the toilet. I put my pee and poop in the toilet. After I go, I wipe myself with toilet paper to keep myself clean.”
  • “This is how to flush the toilet. Get ready for the noise! I push this handle down (demonstrate or give your child the option to help).”
  • “Then, the bowl fills with water and takes away everything I put into the toilet. See how it swirls around and then goes down? Next time you can help me flush.”
Be sure to verbally label each item in the bathroom and tell your child what it is for. This develops your child’s language and gives them the words to communicate with you in their potty training journey. It’s also helpful to identify items with sticker labels or photos. You might consider making some bathroom flashcards or using our potty training flash cards. Here are terms you should explain to your child when playing the Build-A-Bathroom game:

  • Toilet
  • Toilet Seat
  • Toilet Paper
  • Flush Handle
  • Sink
  • Faucet
  • Water
  • Soap
  • Towel
  • Toilet Paper
  • Flushable Wipes
  • Underwear
  • Pull-Ups® training pants
Partner with your child as you demonstrate using the bathroom step-by-step, talking about your process with as much detail as possible each step of the way. Including your child in conversation helps them to process all the information and share what they know with you. Ask your child about what they know and what they want to know. Tell your child that you are showing them because soon they will be an expert at doing it too!

Making potty training engaging and entertaining is what it’s all about. Let the fun begin with this bathroom game!
