Making Strides

The road to the potty training finish line is sure to have a few detours. But there are lots of small victories to celebrate with your child. Here are some key milestones:

Getting A Potty It's a big event!

TIP: Get your child involved in this process and generate some excitement before you start potty training.

Big Kid® Pants Another big event is saying “bye-bye” to diapers. Let your child know that diapers are for babies, but a Big Kid® wears training pants like PULL-UPS® training pants.

TIP: Let your child show off his or her training pants to your friends.

Dress Up Encourage your child to show you the difference between the front and back of training pants. Then move on to how they go on and off. With underwear-like designs and stretchy sides, PULL-UPS® training pants are especially helpful.

Have a Seat Sitting on the potty chair or toilet can be scary for a toddler. Show your child how it’s okay to sit on the potty–fully clothed if that helps.

TIP: Make the potty chair a fun spot, and provide lots of encouragement and rewards–like a favorite book or toy.

Knowing When It’s Time To Go Through facial expression, body language or announcing LOUD and IN PUBLIC!–letting you know when it’s time to go is cause for celebration.

First Success Be sure to do something very special for your child to commemorate this big achievement.

TIP: Encourage your child to tell others what a Big Kid® he or she’s becoming.

And More Successes Toilet training is a process, and your Big Kid® will experience both successes and setbacks.

TIP: Be positive, patient and caring for both. Provide rewards when your child has success on the potty. Give positive encouragement when things don’t go quite right.
